James Tedesco is hopeful of earning a contract extension at the Roosters before becoming a free agent on November 1.

The 31-year-old is contracted until the end of 2025 and is worth up to $1 million a season on the open market but will likely have to take a pay cut to remain at Bondi.

Tedesco has been in terrific form of late and believes he can play for another four years after helping the Roosters to second place on the ladder.

“The body is feeling good, so I don’t think there’s any reason to not want to keep playing,” the Roosters captain and two-time premiership winner told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I’m the captain of the club, I’ve really enjoyed my career here and I want to finish my career here. I don’t know how long that [future] looks like, but in terms of my body and [how I feel] mentally, I’m in a really good place.

“I wanted to focus on my footy this year and let that do the talking. There’s no reason to stress or overthink things. Hopefully, we can get something done in the next couple of months. That would be ideal, but I’m putting all my energy into the finals.”

Tedesco’s leadership will be needed at the Roosters, with Luke Keary and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves heading to the Super League at the end of this year, while Joey Manu is off to Japanese rugby.

“[Another] big thing about being a captain, it’s not just about you playing well, you need to make sure everyone else is on, and we’re playing good footy as a team – that’s been a big positive for me this year,” Tedesco said.

The Roosters round out their regular season against Canberra and South Sydney.

Meanwhile, Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen remains unsigned for 2026 but is expected to remain at the Storm.

Should he stay, emerging star Sua Fa’alogo may be moved on as he becomes a free agent in 2026.

VETERAN EEL CLOSES IN ON NEW CLUB

Shane Flanagan’s Dragons rebuild is set to receive another boost with the club expected to announce a deal for a wantaway Eels prop imminently.

According to a report from The Daily Telegraph has revealed St George are in the process of finalising an offer for Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who has a year remaining on his current Eels deal but is free to seek opportunities away from Parramatta.

North Queensland were interested in signing the 31-year-old, but pulled out of the race due to salary cap constraints, leaving Flanagan’s side as the front-runner to sign the former NSW Blues forward.

RCG’s signature aligns with Flanagan’s desire to increase the size, power and experience of his Dragon’s roster, with the towering Eels middle adding to the club’s already impressive forward stocks that include Hame Sele, Blake Lawrie, Jack de Belin, Toby and Ryan Couchman as well as Francis and Michael Molo.

The prop is one of several Eels stars given permission to test the open market as the club begin their own rebuild under new head coach Jason Ryles. Alongside Campbell-Gillard, Maika Sivo and Ryan Matterson have been given permission to seek opportunities elsewhere, while the future of club captain Clint Gutherson remains up in the air.

Should his move to the Dragons eventuate, Campbell-Gillard will join Damien Cook and Valentine Holmes as Flanagan’s fresh faces for next season, with the trio bringing a wealth of experience to a Dragons side that’s lacked consistency this season.

On top of this, there are reports Gutherson may join the club next season, though they may need to offload some of their current roster to accommodate all four, plus Ben Hunt, under their salary cap.

EELS PURSUE DOGS FLYER

The Parramatta Eels are reportedly chasing another fresh face in their backline, with the club linked to a move for Bulldogs winger Blake Wilson.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald’s Adrian Proszenko, the Eels are targeting more pace out wide and believe Wilson to be an ideal target for this reason.

“The Eels had a crack at him not so long ago and were unsuccessful and now he’s off-contract they’re having another little prod,” he said on SEN’s NRL Crunch Time.

Wilson has played 21 NRL games since making his debut in Round 11 2023, impressing with finishing ability, speed and ability to make tough carries out of his own end.

According to the Fox Sports Lab, Wilson has averaged 145 metres and three tackles per game in 10 games this season, scoring four tries, including the game winner against the Eels in June.

Despite showing his clear NRL talent, the 24-year-old, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in NSW Cup earlier this month, is stuck behind Josh Addo-Carr and Jacob Kiraz in the Bulldogs winger pecking order.

Addo-Carr’s age and injury issues mean Wilson may get more first grade opportunities for Cameron Ciraldo’s side in the coming years, although the Queenslander may follow Jeral Skelton’s lead and search for playing time elsewhere.

However, Parramatta also boast an impressive collection of wingers, including Sean Russell, Bailey Simonsson and new signing Zac Lomax, who has excelled on the wing this year but is expected to shift into the centres at the Eels.

The club also have Maika Sivo contracted until the end of 2025, though the Fijian is reportedly free to leave should another club seek his services.

There is also the issue of longstanding club captain Clint Gutherson, whose future recently had doubt poured over it by the signing of exciting young Penrith fullback Isaiah Iongi, who arrives at the Eels on a three-year deal next season.

In order to accommodate Iongi, Gutherson may vacate the Eels’ No.1 jersey, which he had permanently held since 2019, with the expectation the 29-year-old will be shifted elsewhere in Ryles’ backline.

With Lomax expected to return to centre alongside powerful Eels young gun Will Penisini, Gutherson may be forced to play on the wing, though the arrival of Wilson further throws the Eels fullback’s future up in the air.

Gutherson has been linked with a move to Shane Flanagan’s Dragons side, while Phil Gould said on a recent episode of the Six Tackles with Gus podcast there are several clubs currently making noise about the availability of the Eels skipper.
